Vapor barrier included

Crawl Space Insulation
in Utah homes.

Cold floors, musty air and damp framing usually start in the crawl space. We deal with the ground first, then insulate, so the work lasts.

What it involves

The job
description.

Bare earth under a house gives off moisture continuously, and it travels up through the floor into the rooms above. Insulating over that traps the problem, so we lay and seal a barrier across the ground before anything else.

Once the ground is covered, we insulate the walls or the floor above depending on how the space is built and whether it is vented. You feel the difference on the floor first, usually within a day or two.

Sound familiar

Signs this is the
job your house needs.

If more than one of these sounds like your home, they usually share a cause, and it is usually this one.

The floors are cold underfoot even when the heating is on

There is a musty smell you cannot trace

The crawl space has bare earth on the ground

You have seen condensation or damp on the framing

The rooms above the crawl space are the coldest in the house

Common questions

About this
job.

If yours is not here, ask us on the phone.

01Do I need the barrier as well as insulation?
In almost every case, yes, and in that order. Insulating over damp ground puts new material into a wet environment, which is how you end up doing the job twice.
02Will this stop the musty smell?
It deals with the usual cause, which is moisture off bare ground. If there is standing water or a drainage problem, that needs sorting first, and we will say so at the visit.
03Do you insulate the walls or the floor?
It depends on whether the crawl space is vented and how it is built. We work that out on site rather than applying one approach to every house.
04How bad does access need to be before you say no?
Rarely a problem. Our crew works in tight crawl spaces routinely. If access genuinely is not workable we will tell you at the estimate.
